Internet of Things

The internet of things (IoT) is a computing concept that describes the idea of everyday physical objects being connected to the internet and being able to identify themselves to other devices.It include sensor technologies, wireless technologies or QR codes.

Lets take an example of Internet of Things- An internet connection is a wonderful thing, it give us all sorts of benefits that just weren’t possible before. If you’re old enough, think of your cellphone before it was a smartphone. You could call and you could text sure, but now you can read any book, watch any movie, or listen to any song all in the palm of your hand. And that’s just to name a few of the incredible things your smartphone can do.

The point is that connecting things to the internet yields many amazing benefits. We’ve all seen these benefits with our smartphones, laptops, and tablets, but this is true for everything else too. And yes, I do mean everything.

The Internet of Things is actually a pretty simple concept, it means taking all the things in the world and connecting them to the internet.

Applications of IoT-

1.Natural Disaster Management with IoT – The Internet of Things platform can be used to further analyze data related to a specific geographic location using remote monitoring tools to detect early warning of a disaster.

2.Better Health-Care with IoT- IoT can have a major impact when it comes to remote health monitoring. Even when the patient is shaken, his vitals can be continuously referred to doctors with the help of the IoT platform.

3.Smart Farming with IoT- Irrigation can be automated with the help of IoT. A set of sensors such as light, humidity, temperature can be used for continuous monitoring of field conditions..

4.Smart Energy Management with IoT- Energy distribution can be optimized with smart grids. These grids keep collecting real-time data which helps distribute electricity efficiently and also reduces outages.

Some of the advantages of IoT include-

  • Ability to access information from anywhere at any time on any device;
  • Improved communication between connected electronic devices;
  • Transferring data packets over a connected network saves time and money;
  • Automating tasks helps improve the quality of a business’ services and reduces the need for human intervention.
